In Reply to: don't understand about seperating model/weapon and how to combine 2 into a model posted by Chaoslord.CC on May 21, 1998 at 17:35:46:
You model and animate your character _with_ its
weapon and build a md2 file with the animation frames
and save it, then in your fav md2util you remove the
weapon and save the player only, load the combined
file and remove the player and save the weapon only.
As far as i understand vwep is just that you have
some additional weapon.md2's so what these look like
or how they are animated is up to you. Ofcours i
imagine that ppl would like you to use the weapons
that exist insted of making up new ones. I dont know
if vwep checks the additional models (assuming thats
how its done) for facecount or something to make sure
its right models...
: OK. I think I got the skin problems worked out. I'll put it out somewhere when the model is done just so everyone can see it and critique it (It's my first, so criticism is appreciated)
: Now, I still don't understand about seperation of model and weapon into 2 different md2's. I see good models on the web (such as the dire avenger, awesome model!) and the weapon is seperate from the model.
: Can anyone explain how to do this, ( not the modelling, that should pose no problem seperating the models) how to add the 2 together for the finished model, and how to orient the 2 in 3d space so that the weapon appears in the correct hand.
: Will the model still work if I make the weapon a part of the model? I know this is probably for Vwep support, which I'm not concerned with right away, but if it is possible to do right away, I may as well do it now.
: Additionally (I know, too much for one message) the way the terminator holds his weapon is much different from the other model styles. When (if??) I put in vwep support, will the weapons appear like they do for the other models (2 handed for most, kind of a cradle action) or can I make it so that they appear pistol style in the marine's hand?
: Again, any advice is appreciated.
