Q2Modeler probs adding frames

I've had a look through the message board but cannot find any other posts about this, so if its been discussed before, forgive me.

Basically, I can open up an md2 model, or get up the first frame of a new model using Import->append verts, but when I use the append frames option to put more frames in the model goes all bizarre and scribbley like a mad spider weaved the wire frame. The frames all taken from exactly the same model, and all import on their own as import append verts fine. They're 3DS files - I have to convert them to this as I'm using another package, and I can't export as ASCII. PURLEASE someone tell me theres a way to add new 3DS frames to an already existing model, or put them onto an append verts frame. I can make a totally new model from Qdata but then I have to make a totally new skin which I REALLY do not want to do.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated,
