I use qME quite a bit, and the only thing I can think of that would be causing the problem you're having is that you didn't have the right object selected. I know that a lot of times I get weird results when I accidentally have the root object selected, but most of the time if I want to globally move the model, I just select the root object, set the scope to All Scenes, and punch the value I want to move into the Objects dialog.
