The OpenGL version gives you colored lighting and nice blending effects though. Note that by the time we ship hopefully 3Dfx will have some competition that you guys can choose from. Let me explain the weapon situation to you folks as I understand it (I got debriefed by Kevin today). smeglord, while he's at it why don't they put in moonpies and alcohol? :) salem: Heh, high fiber diets work for that :) hook: +mlook will remian right? In DM i wanna se severed limbs! shh everyone LIST UP +m the channel for Hook :) The problem a lot of folks saw with Quake was that you had the "one true weapon", i.e. the RL. Basically if you had anything BUT the RL you were screwed, unless you had massively low ping. This made things pretty uninteresting for a lot of people. Hook, i heard the rail gun will just take the place of the rocket laucher in quake So one of the things that we're trying to do with the new weapons is make them better balanced. For example, if someone prefers the SMG, then they should be able to compete with it on an equal level with someone of equal talent armed with the railgun. Now, some concrete examples. The chaingun is fucking DEVASTATING. BUT, it runs through ammo VERY quicklky. Like at 1800rpm. That means if you use it like a hose, you're out of ammo in about 3 seconds or something like that. The SMG is a little underpowered, however it has low ammo consumption, and you can stick things like silencers on it (that isn't definite though). The railgun does phenom damage, but it has ZERO splash effect. This means it's REAL easy to miss with it, especially if you're lagged. And since the crosshair isn't that accurate, long range sniper shots with the railgun are still going to be a little iffy. This is for Quake2, yes. This goes the same for all the weapons that we are putting in. Hook: Are you guys going to improve the aiming stuff? like the crosshair or if you shoot close but miss a little the ammo will still hit the person/monster We want a pretty good balance of effects. There's NO reason why someone who prefers the SMG shouldn't be able to compete with someone who likes the railgun. The advantages and disadvantages of each should roughly balance out. oops Same goes for armor. We're going to try and make the red armor not so beefy, and we're also going to try and make the weakest armor a little stronger. Also, it would be nice if you spawn into the world temporarily invulnerable so that you don't get immediately fragged. We're also considering some things for anti-camping measures. I don't know about the aiming stuff however. Anyway, that's the scoop as I know it.
